Në postin e ri, ai do të jetë këshilltari kryesor ushtarak i sekretarit të Përgjithshëm të NATO-s, Mark Rutte.

Shefi i Mbrojtjes së Gjermanisë, gjenerali Carsten Breuer, është zgjedhur si kryetar i ardhshëm i Komitetit Ushtarak të NATO-s, organi më i lartë ushtarak i Aleancës.

Breuer u zgjodh nga shefat e mbrojtjes të 32 vendeve anëtare të NATO-s gjatë një takimi në Kopenhagë.

Ai do të marrë detyrën në korrik 2027 dhe do ta mbajë për një mandat 3-vjeçar, duke pasuar admiralin italian Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

Në këtë pozicion, Breuer do të jetë këshilltari kryesor ushtarak i Sekretarit të Përgjithshëm të NATO-s, Mark Rutte. Ai do të përcjellë gjithashtu rekomandimet e drejtuesve ushtarakë të vendeve anëtare te udhëheqja politike e Aleancës.

Emërimi i tij vjen në një periudhë kur NATO po forcon masat e mbrojtjes dhe parandalimit ndaj kërcënimeve të mundshme nga Rusia.
